How Installing Energy-Efficient Windows in Ogden Saves You Money

When you upgrade to energy-efficient windows, you may see some perks, such as:

  • Protect your investment: If you have a relatively old home, your windows are most likely in need of replacement. Upgrading your windows can make your home more comfortable and also help increase the value of your house if you decide to sell.
  • Save money on power bills: According to the Department of Energy, heat gained or lost through windows makes up around 25-30% of household energy use. Replacing your windows with energy-efficient models can help lower how much energy is used in your home, therefore saving you about 12% more on your bills.
  • Protect your valuables: Many Energy Star certified windows have low-emissivity coatings, which filter out harmful UV rays, reducing fading of your furniture, carpet and other valuables.
  • Reduce your carbon footprint: You can reduce your carbon footprint by about 12% when you install Energy Star certified windows. In Ogden, that's about 235 pounds per year on average.

Estimated Cost of Window Replacement in Ogden

Let's go over the cost of installing new windows and the types of services offered by installers.

How Much Do New Windows Cost?

According to our research, the average cost of installing a single window is around $600. However, window replacement costs can range from $200 to $1,200 per window. But costs vary considerably depending on the size of your home, complexity of the installation, your location and the quality of the company you choose. Many window companies also offer door installations and replacements, which have a higher price tag.

With windows, efficiency is one of the most important factors for most homeowners. Windows with higher efficiency may cost more upfront, but by increasing the efficiency of your home — particularly during the summer and winter — they can give you decades of energy savings. According to Energy Star, purchasing certified energy-efficient windows can save Ogden homeowners $330+ a year after replacing single-pane windows.

Costs will also vary depending on the material you choose for your window frames. Aluminum frames are the least expensive. They're sturdy, light and easy to maintain, but provide poor insulation. Vinyl frames are a bit more expensive and provide good insulation. Composite frames made from wood fibers encased in plastic also provide good insulation and are moderately expensive. Wood frames cost the most and are the most in-demand. They're also aesthetically pleasing and provide decent insulation for your home.

What Services do Window Installers Offer?

The first step when planning a window installation is to think about whether you need a full-frame or pocket installation.

Full-frame installations are necessary when you want to change the style of your windows or your window has significant rot. With this service, your installers will replace the whole window, including the trim, frame and sill. A pocket installation involves replacing a window within the existing frame, which is generally cheaper than a full-frame installation.

If you're still debating which kind of installation you should get, you can consult with your installer and get their advice. The choice mostly is influenced by how old the frames are and if there's any damage present.

How We Choose the Best Window Installers in Ogden

EcoWatch differs from most reviewers because we look at these companies through a sustainability lens. We've assessed the best window replacement companies in Ogden mostly based on their energy efficient offerings, as it's the most sustainable option and the best one for homeowners. Energy Star certified windows have been shown to lower electricity bills by hundreds of dollars. Along with energy efficiency, our rating methodology takes the following factors into consideration:

Service Area

This one is pretty self-explanatory, but we've chosen to highlight window installers that serve Ogden so you can find the right window installation company near you.

Work Quality

When it comes to new windows, the quality and breadth of services can often play just as important of a role in insulation and performance as the type of window you opt for. We do give window installers more points if they offer high-quality products, but we also consider workmanship as reflected in customer feedback.

Customer Reviews

We analyzed patterns in recent online reviews to determine the companies with the most customer satisfaction. Customer satisfaction might be the factor we place the most value on, as it indicates the quality of services across nearly every category, including quality of parts, quality of installation, warranty, professionalism, cost and more.

Cost

This one is a give-and-take: similar to other services, cheap window installation companies are not going to provide the highest quality service. Still, we want to make sure we're highlighting companies that offer a variety of price and financing options so they're accessible to most homeowners.

Warranty

Protecting your investment in new windows is important to many homeowners. That's why window installation companies that offer lengthy warranties for products, parts and labor rank higher with EcoWatch.

Years of Experience

Lastly, we like to see companies that have a good track record in the industry. Window installers that have more years of experience will earn higher rankings by our standards. We like to see at least ten years of experience.

Ogden, UT Window Replacement FAQs

What is the typical cost to install windows?

The typical cost to replace one window can range from $450 to $650. There are a variety of factors that affect the price, such as how energy-efficient the windows are, styles and sizes of windows, the number of windows, your property's location, local labor costs and the materials used in designing the windows.

What type of window is the most energy-efficient?

A window's energy efficiency depends on a variety of factors, such as the quality of the installation and the kind of window. Look for Energy Star Certified windows — these are typically the most energy-efficient since they are certified by the U.S. Department of Energy.

When do I need to use a window installation company?

Unless you have home repair skills and have the time needed to replace your own windows, we recommend hiring the pros. The window installation process is complicated and can take anywhere from four to six hours for one window. Although it's tempting to try to do it yourself to save money, hiring a company is a faster, more efficient and much safer alternative.

What time of year should I replace my windows?

Replacement windows can be installed at any time, but autumn might be the best season. No matter when you install them, the contractors will take steps to make sure that too much hot or cold air doesn't get into the home, so the temperature outside isn't necessarily a big factor. Most importantly, the weather should be dry.

Should I replace my windows all at once?

If your windows are more than 20 years old, it's probably time to replace all of them. At that point, they are typically less efficient, draftier and/or more damaged than new windows. Doing your windows all at once will involve less paperwork and less time.
