How Installing Energy-Efficient Windows in Grafton Saves You Money

There are quite a few perks of switching to energy-efficient windows. A few reasons you may want to consider making the change are the following:

  • Save money on power bills: The Department of Energy estimates that heat gained or lost through windows makes up around 25-30% of household energy use. Switching to energy-efficient windows can help decrease that amount, which helps you save $315 a year on your bills.
  • Reduce your carbon footprint: Since energy-efficient windows improve the insulation in your home, you can cut your indirect greenhouse gas emissions by about 12%, according to Energy Star.
  • Protect your valuables from fading: The low-emissivity coatings on many energy-efficient windows filter out harmful UV rays, preventing your furniture, carpet and other valuables from fading.
  • Protect your investment: When you have an older home, your windows could also be outdated or damaged. Keeping your windows up to date is an important part of maintaining your property and its value.

Estimated Cost of Window Replacement in Grafton

Windows come in various shapes and sizes, so costs and services will vary greatly. Here are the average costs and the primary services that you'll find from the average window installation company.

How Much Do New Windows Cost?

The typical cost to install one window is about $600 but can range from $200 to $1,200. But costs will differ significantly based on your location, the quality of your products, the current condition of your home and the number of windows you need. A lot of window companies also offer door installations and other add-ons like coating, baths, shutters and more. Additional services will increase overall project costs.

Bear in mind that energy-efficient windows may cost more, but Energy Star predicts the upgrade will save you between $101 and $583 per year when you install single-pane windows and between $27 and $197 per year when you install double-pane, clear glass windows. Your exact savings will vary depending on your local climate, energy rates and individual home characteristics.

Requesting free quotes from several providers is the best way to find out which one will work best for your budget.

What Services do Window Installers Offer?

The first thing to ask yourself when planning on installing new windows is: Do you need a full-frame installation or a pocket installation?

A full-frame installation is a replacement of the full window. This service involves removing the old window, the sill, and the exterior and interior trim. It can also involve extra materials, like insulation and drip edges, which increase the total cost of the project. It's also worth noting that you may have to touch up the paint around the window after a full-frame installation. A pocket installation entails replacing a window without removing the whole frame, which tends to be cheaper than a full-frame installation.

If you're hiring a reputable window installation company, your company can recommend the best type for your project. In Grafton, the decision will mostly be influenced by how much damage there is currently and how old your existing frames are.

How We Choose the Best Window Installers in Grafton

The EcoWatch Reviews team differs from most reviewers, as we're examining these companies through a sustainability lens. Along with energy efficiency, we assessed each installer and ranked them based on the following methodology:

Service Area

Since this is a guide for Grafton, we gave more points to companies that cover the city. There are other reputable providers that didn't make the list because of the low odds that they would serve the average homeowner in Grafton.

Work Quality

When installing new windows, the quality and range of services can often play just as important of a role in overall efficiency and performance as the type of window you get. We do give window installers higher marks if they offer high-quality products, but we also factor in workmanship as reflected in customer feedback.

Customer Reviews

We analyzed trends in recent online reviews to find the companies with the highest rates of customer satisfaction. Customer satisfaction may be the most important factor, as it reflects the quality of services across nearly every category, including quality of parts, quality of installation, cost, professionalism, warranty and more.

Cost

This one is a give-and-take: similar to other services, cheap window companies won't always provide the most quality service. On the other hand, we want to make sure we're highlighting companies that provide a spectrum of price and financing options so they're accessible to most homeowners.

Warranty

As discussed, windows are a substantial investment, so you'll want to make sure that investment is protected. Window installation companies that give you lengthy warranties for products, parts and installation (aka workmanship) rank higher with EcoWatch.

Years of Experience

Last but not least, we like to see companies that have been in the industry for quite some time. Window installation companies that have more years of experience earn higher rankings by our standards. We like to see at least ten years of experience.

Grafton, OH Window Replacement FAQs

What is the average cost to replace windows in a home?

The typical cost to replace one window can range from $450 to $650. There are a variety of factors that affect how much it costs, which include the materials used in designing the windows, local labor costs, styles and sizes of windows, how energy-efficient the windows are, your property's location and the number of windows.

What are the types of windows?

The most common types of windows for homes include: picture windows, awning windows, slider windows, transom windows, bay windows, casement windows and double-hung and single-hung windows.

When do I have to use a window installation company?

You should use a window installation professional whenever you need to replace your windows. Installing windows is a complicated process that can be difficult and time-consuming, so it's best handled by the professionals.

How often do you need to replace your windows?

Windows generally last 20 to 30 years, but anytime you notice damage on your windows, it's a good time to have an expert take a look at them to determine if they are in need of a repair or replacement.

Should I replace my windows all at once?

If your windows are more than 20 years old, it's probably time to replace all of them. By that point, they are often less efficient, leakier and/or more damaged than new windows. Doing your windows all at the same time will involve less paperwork and less stress.
