Volvo’s First EV Comes With a Plan to Slash Emissions

Volvo introduced its first-ever all-electric vehicle this week, kicking off an ambitious plan to slash emissions and phase out solely gas-powered vehicles starting this year.

The Swedish carmaker unveiled the XC40 Recharge, a battery-powered SUV, at an event in Los Angeles Wednesday and has pledged to introduce a new electric model each year through 2025. Volvo has announced a set of ambitious goals to meet by 2025. By that year it wants EVs to make up 50 percent of the company’s global sales, to cut each vehicle’s carbon footprint by 40 percent and to reduce the carbon emissions of its entire business by 25 percent.
