What Are the Top 5 Solar Companies in Wyoming?

Our team of solar experts formed this list of the top five best solar companies in Wyoming based on market research and customer experiences in the state specifically. Each of these companies scored highly in a rating system that takes into account the local factors that affect Wyoming residents searching for clean energy solutions — including severe weather care and customer satisfaction.

Below you’ll find an overview of each company, followed by our in-depth report of why we chose them, plus pros and cons. You might notice that some popular solar brands aren’t included in our reviews. This was an intentional choice by the EcoWatch team due to issues like lawsuits and reports of poor customer service. Note: The EcoWatch Ratings you see in the company snapshots at the top of this page reflect our overall assessment of the company, but our rankings reflect the best solar companies in Wyoming, specifically. If you notice that a company lower on our list has a higher EcoWatch Rating, it’s likely because it’s a great company but there are better installers for this specific area.

1. Creative Energies Solar

Creative Energies Solar definitely lives up to its name. And by that, we mean this company has designed off-grid solar energy systems for a base camp on Mount Everest, a yurt in the Tetons and in Antarctica, so it can definitely make solar work for your Wyoming home. As if its global solar efforts weren’t telling enough, Creative Energies Solar is a certified B Corporation and is affiliated with the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), Solar Energy International (SEI) and other reputable names in the solar industry.

Creative Energies Solar has been offering residential and commercial solar panel installations since 2001, serving Wyoming through its Landor and Tetons offices, as well as customers in Idaho and Utah. The company has technicians certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) and offers some of the top brands in solar panels (SunPower, LG, SolarEdge) and solar batteries (Tesla Powerwall, Generac).

Although Creative Energies does not offer any in-house financing options, it does recommend financing your solar system with Clean Energy Credit Union.

Perhaps our favorite thing about Creative Energies is its dedication to furthering solar energy for the good of the planet and not just for profit. You can feel good about your decision to install with Creative Energies because for every solar array it installs, the company donates to the Honnold Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing solar access across the world.

Pros for Creative Energies Solar

  • Variety of services offered (solar panels, off-grid solar, energy storage, EV chargers and more)
  • Prioritizes social impact
  • High customer satisfaction
  • Most experienced installer on this list

Cons for Creative Energies Solar

  • No in-house financing options (although it will help you find loans)
  • Higher-quality brands makes it more expensive than other installers

2. Apollo Energy

Apollo Energy is another impressive solar installer serving Wyoming and Colorado residents. Not only is it a certified B Corp with NABCEP-certified techs, but it’s also a local, women-owned solar installation company with both English and Spanish-speaking solar experts on staff. Plus, it only offers 100% American-made solar panels.

By choosing Apollo Energy, customers are nearly guaranteed expert customer service by the company’s promise to never outsource or subcontract its installations. It offers a solid variety of solar panel brands, including LG, SolarEdge, Mission Solar, and solar batteries like Enphase and Sonnen, all protected under a 25-year warranty. According to its website, Apollo promises to fix any broken or malfunctioning panel and repair roofs if they are damaged during installation, but the company does not specify a length for its workmanship warranty.2 (We reached out to Apollo for clarity on its warranty coverage, but we have not heard back.)

As far as services go, Apollo Energy’s crew offers re-roofing and roof replacement services, as well as solar panel removals. The company does not outline details about its financing offerings on its website, but it’s clear that it is against solar leases and power purchase agreements (PPAs) because it wants to help its customers reap all of the benefits of solar.

Apollo is another installer that takes pride in giving back to its community. According to its website, Apollo partners with local nonprofits to provide solar solutions to lower-income households and provides employment and training opportunities to vulnerable individuals. All in all, you can feel good about choosing Apollo for your solar projects.

Pros for Apollo Energy

  • Prioritizes social impact
  • Certified B Corp and NABCEP-certified installer
  • 100% American-made solar panels

Cons for Apollo Energy

  • Founded in 2015, not as much experience in the industry compared to others on this list
  • No lease or PPA options (although we don’t recommend leases for solar financing, we list it as a con because some homeowners may be looking for this option)

3. The Solar Guys

Founded in 2019, The Solar Guys is a newer installer that’s made quite an impact. Although The Solar Guys serves residents and businesses in three states, it still advertises being a trusted, local installer for Cheyenne and surrounding areas (as well as Grand Junction, Colorado, and Lake Station, Indiana). While it’s a newer company that doesn’t have a ton of reviews, all of the customers who have shared their experiences with The Solar Guys online seem to have nothing but good things to say about the installer.

The Solar Guys offers both on- and off-grid solar panel design and installations, as well as solar battery and electric vehicle charger installations. The company also offers solar system inspections — even if you installed your system with another installer — which is pretty cool.

The Solar Guys does not specify which solar brands it uses on its website, but based on third-party data, we’ve found it offers American-made Next Energy Alliance solar panels and Generac solar batteries. Although its website mentions solar financing options, it does not specify details of its financing model.

Pros for The Solar Guys

  • Wide variety of solar services, including solar system inspections
  • Local, Wyoming-based company
  • Positive customer reviews online

Cons for The Solar Guys

  • Only serves Southeastern Wyoming (Cheyenne and surrounding areas)
  • Founded in 2019 (not as much experience in the solar industry)
  • Limited information available on website

4. GenPro Energy Solutions

GenPro is a South Dakota-based regional installer that serves parts of Wyoming. The benefit of choosing a company like GenPro is that it’s a bit bigger, so it has greater resources and availability.

However, GenPro still maintains overwhelmingly positive customer reviews about its level of professionalism and customer service. Specifically, GenPro technicians have been praised for being friendly and timely, while also having local knowledge required to install a system that will work for your home. They’re also always willing to answer questions and help customers take advantage of solar incentives, including the federal tax credit and property tax exemptions.

GenPro offers a wide assortment of services and many solar brands that, together, allow for some home solar system customization. However, it doesn’t carry some of the more popular brands, like LG, Panasonic or Maxeon/SunPower panels.

Coverage-wise, GenPro installations come with a 25-year performance guarantee, which helps Wyoming residents maximize energy production to provide power for heating systems through the cold winters. It also provides a product warranty for damage to provide peace of mind during severe weather seasons.

Pros for GenPro Energy Solutions

  • Variety of solar products and services
  • Promising warranty coverage
  • More than a decade of experience in the solar industry
  • Competitive pricing

Cons for GenPro Energy Solutions

  • Less popular brands in stock
  • Only serves Eastern Wyoming homes (near South Dakota offices)
  • No lease or PPA options (although we don’t recommend solar leases, we list it as a con because some homeowners may be looking for this option)

5. WYCO Wind and Solar

Last but not least on our list of best solar companies in Wyoming is WYCO Wind and Solar. WYCO has provided more than 250 renewable energy installations in Cheyenne and surrounding areas since it was founded in 2008. As you can guess from its name, WYCO Wind and Solar offers wind system installations along with solar panels, battery backup and emergency power generators.

WYCO doesn’t offer a ton of information on its website when it comes to the solar brands it offers, but we were able to find that it offers SolarEdge solar panels, along with some of the top solar battery manufacturers, like the Generac Powercell and the Tesla Powerwall. We were unable to find warranty coverage information or specific prices, but WYCO does claim that most customers find the company to be 20-25% cheaper than the competition.

While WYCO doesn’t specify details about its financing methods, it does recommend getting an unsecured loan from Enerbank on its website, claiming it’s easier and faster to process and less of a financial risk.3

Pros for WYCO Wind and Solar

  • Local, Wyoming-based company
  • Claims to be 20-25% cheaper than the competition
  • Solar Power World certified

Cons for WYCO Wind and Solar

  • Limited information available on website
  • Only serves Southeastern Wyoming

EcoWatch Criteria for Selecting the Top Solar Company in Wyoming

This compilation of best solar companies in Wyoming is based on data collected from hundreds of solar installers across the nation. The seven factors outlined below explain how our EcoWatch rating is formed, but if you’d like to learn more about our process you can visit our methodology page.

Warranty

Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are expensive, which makes having a reliable and lengthy warranty all the more important — especially in states like Wyoming, where winters can be harsh. The good news is that solar installers almost always provide some kind of warranty to cover either equipment, labor or both.

We typically look for solar companies that have a 25-year product warranty that covers manufacturing defects as well as (at least) a 10-year workmanship warranty to cover labor-related issues. We also like to see a 25-year performance warranty to ensure maximum power production over time. Solar panel companies that meet these criteria get higher scores with EcoWatch.

Year Founded

Solar panels are becoming increasingly popular, which means there are a lot of companies that are popping up to capitalize on the hot solar market. EcoWatch places an emphasis on the installers that have been around awhile and have a proven track record. Plus, your solar warranty is only valid if the solar company you choose is operating, which is why it’s so important to choose a reliable supplier that won’t go out of business in a few years.

Services Offered

Solar installation needs will be different for each homeowner. For example, if you live in an area prone to power outages, you may prioritize backup battery capacity, or if you have a flat rooftop, you may need a solar installer that offers a ballasted-array mounting system. If you drive an electric vehicle, you’ll probably want a solar company that installs EV chargers. EcoWatch considers the different services offered by solar installers and awards higher scores to companies that have more variety.

Brands of Solar Equipment Offered

Companies vary in terms of the brands they install as well. Some installers stick to a single manufacturer’s equipment, as is the case with SunPower and the Maxeon-manufactured SunPower panels it installs. Other installers might have access to multiple brands, providing you the opportunity to choose the best one for your budget. If you’re looking for the cheapest solar panels, for example, a company that only stocks high-efficiency, high-quality panels likely won’t work for you. Or if you’re looking for a specific brand, like LG or Tesla, you’ll want to choose an installer that carries those products. Companies that offer a wider variety of brands or specialty brands typically rank higher because they appeal to more homeowners.

Industry Affiliations

EcoWatch looks for industry affiliations among the best solar companies as well. Connections with organizations like the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), Grid Alternatives and the like usually indicate that a company is serious about making renewable energy more accessible and has a worthy mission that goes well beyond making a quick buck.

We also look for certifications from the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP), which suggests that a company’s technicians are knowledgeable and can perform a professional and safe installation.

Size of Company

The size of the solar company you choose will likely have an impact on the type of service you receive. There are pros and cons to choosing a national provider over a small, local provider and vice versa.

Smaller companies tend to have good relationships with local utility companies that could lead to expedited connections and quicker net metering savings. Companies local to Wyoming will also likely be able to better guide you when it comes to navigating local policies and incentives for solar. On the downside, small solar companies may have fewer resources and may have a longer wait time for solar installation, and they may not have the same credibility and capacity as a national provider.

Major installers can often access better pricing by bulk purchasing equipment and have more availability for installations due to their larger workforce. However, they can come up short when it comes to local knowledge, connections to the grid and personalized customer service.

Solar Pricing and Financing

EcoWatch values variety in every category, but it might be most important when it comes to solar financing. Although the cost of solar panels has dropped significantly over the years, it’s still quite the investment. As such, we want to highlight companies that have reasonable prices for the quality of equipment and service that they offer.

While the suppliers on this list may not be the cheapest solar companies in Wyoming, cheap isn’t always better when it comes to solar. Higher-efficiency equipment (that tends to be more expensive) means more solar energy for your home and less electricity from your utility provider, leading you to lower power bills.

EcoWatch also scores companies that offer more financing options higher because it means they’re working harder to make solar more accessible to more homeowners.
