Purchasing Impossible Nuggets
Impossible Nuggets are quickly becoming available at many stores and restaurants. The company's website has a handy locator tool to find specific Impossible Foods products, including the nuggets, at restaurants or grocery stores near you.
Grocery Stores
Impossible Foods is located at a variety of grocery stores, primarily at Walmart locations across the U.S. I live in Southern California, where this product is also available at some Albertsons, Gelson's, Vons, and Kroger grocery stores. I found a bag of the new nuggets at Gelson's.
Restaurants
I first tried Impossible Nuggets at Fatburger in September 2021, but the product is also being tested at select Burger King locations. The fast food giant has already successfully adopted the Impossible Whopper on its menu, so the nuggets are a logical next step. The fast-casual chain Dog Haus has also added the nuggets to its menu.
Some local restaurants are starting to carry the product, with several local sit-down establishments in my neighborhood adding Impossible Nuggets to their veg-friendly menus. With how popular the Impossible Burger is, it won't be surprising to soon see the nuggets on hundreds of menus nationwide, too.

I was fortunate to grab the last bag from the freezer section at Gelson's, a promising sign that these nuggets were already very popular.
Cooking Impossible Nuggets
Cooking the frozen nuggets was just as easy as you'd expect. The bag's instructions suggest cooking them in the oven at 375°F for 11 minutes. I wanted crunchier nuggets, so I popped them in the oven for 13 minutes. They came out golden and fairly crispy, although I could've left them in another minute or two.
Flavor
These do taste very similarly to real nuggets. Granted, I haven't had real meat in over 6 years, but from what I remember, these Impossible Nuggets were pretty deceptive. The flavor had a strong black pepper flavor to it, too, which was fine with me.
Texture
The interior had that chewy, slightly stringy interior like real chicken nuggets do. The exterior had a fine bread crumb that came out golden and pretty crispy, but not quite as crispy as I would have liked. Luckily, that's easy to remedy with a few extra minutes in the oven. The bag also recommends cooking the nuggets in an air fryer. I don't have one, but I imagine the nuggets would get nice and crispy via this cooking appliance.
Overall Impressions
I loved these nuggets. They're a little more expensive than some other plant-based alternatives, and they are probably my second choice as far as vegan nuggets from the freezer section of the grocery store go. (My favorite, you ask? The Gardein "crispy tenders," thank you very much.)
But the Impossible Nuggets were delicious. I devoured them quickly and wanted more. The most impressive part to me was that my partner, an avid meat eater, said these nuggets looked and smelled really good. He didn't end up eating any, but he did say they made him very hungry, which is more than he has said about all the plant-based meat products I try on the regular. These nuggets probably wouldn't fool your more carnivorous friends and family members, but they are a close match to the real deal. They definitely satisfy a nugget craving.
Fast Food vs. At-Home Impossible Nuggets
I've tested the Impossible Nuggets twice, now: once at Fatburger and once at home. I preferred how they tasted at home. The nuggets from Fatburger weren't very crispy and slightly soggier inside, but they were still tasty. I just preferred the texture of the ones I made at home.
The other factor here is cost. As a newer, plant-based product, these are pretty costly still. I got a bag of about 20 nuggets for a steep $8.99 at the store. At Fatburger, I got a 6-piece, sides not included, for $6.99. The cost might go down over time, which would make these a little more appealing.

Impossible Foods was founded by a Stanford University professor, Patrick O. Brown, who wanted to shift his career to address climate change and create solutions to this global crisis. The wildly popular Impossible Burger debuted in 2016 and quickly became a hit with its meaty texture that was nothing like the bean-, carrot-, and pepper-based patties on menus and store shelves previously. The news contained in the Greenhouse Gas Bulletin of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) comes as world leaders prepare to attend the United Nations climate change conference, or COP26. The summit will aim to coordinate global efforts to combat global warming caused by human-made emissions.
"The 'Greenhouse Gas Bulletin' contains a stark, scientific message for climate change negotiators at COP26," said WMO chief Petteri Taalas.
"At the current rate of increase in greenhouse gas concentrations, we will see a temperature increase by the end of this century far in excess of the Paris Agreement targets of 1.5 to 2 degrees Celsius [2.7 to 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit] above pre-industrial levels," he said. "We are way off track."
Weather Extremes Becoming the Norm
Climate experts agree that increases beyond this level will exacerbate the already more frequent extreme weather situations that Earth has been experiencing over past years, including floods, drought, hurricanes and prolonged heat waves.
"The last time the Earth experienced a comparable concentration of CO2 was 3 to 5 million years ago, when the temperature was 2 to 3°C warmer and sea level was 10 to 20 meters (33 to 66 feet) higher than now. But there weren't 7.8 billion people then," said Taalas.
Sea level rise and harm to ocean ecosystems represent further effects of climate change.
Taalas called for a "dramatic increase" in commitments at the COP26 conference beginning on October 31.

What Did the WMO Report Say?
Concentrations of CO2 — the gas responsible for some 66% of the global warming effect — in the atmosphere reached 413.2 parts per million in 2020, up 2.5 ppm over the previous year. This is 149% of pre-industrial levels from 1750, the WMO said.
Averages of methane, the second-most-significant greenhouse gas, reached a new high of 1,889 parts per billion, up 11 ppb on the year before. That represents 262% more than emissions prior to 1750. Some 60% of methane emissions come from human activity, including agriculture and landfills.
The third-most-important climate-damaging gas, nitrous oxide, reached 333.2 ppb, up 1.2 ppb. That is 123% of pre-industrial levels.
The report also emphasized that because CO2 persists in the atmosphere for a long time, the global temperature will stay elevated for some time even if humankind succeeds in reducing emissions to net zero in the near future.
It said that while emissions dropped by 5.6% last year because of the economic slowdown caused by the pandemic, there had been no discernible effect either on the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere or the rate of their growth.
What Have Experts Said?
Euan Nisbet, from the University of London's Greenhouse Gas Group, said the findings showed the Earth was "skidding into a car crash."
"The disaster gets closer and closer, but you can't stop it. You can clearly see the crash ahead, and all you can do is howl," he said.
The director of the Edinburgh Climate Change Institute, Dave Reay, said the WMO report was a "brutally frank" assessment of the achievements of COP summits up to now, which he described as "an epic fail."

SWG3's Operations Manager Bob Javaheri explained: "Heat is essentially thermal energy, and if you've ever found yourself in the middle of a packed out club night then you'll be well aware of just how much energy could be kicking around that room. [Traditionally, [w]hen you look to cool down those spaces using either air-conditioning or ventilation systems, you're pretty much pulling the heat out of a space and releasing it into the atmosphere."
With BODYHEAT, "[w]hat happens, in this case, is that instead of letting all that thermal energy just disappear into the night, it gets transferred to waters and piped deep underground into boreholes where that energy gets stored, much like a battery, to use at a later time," Javaheri explained to EcoWatch.

BODYHEAT is being pioneered by TownRock Energy, a company specializing in heat pump technology that reached out to SWG3 when its founder David Townsend heard that Scotland's leading arts venue was considering a green energy retrofit, Fast Company reported.
"The story is that . . . I like clubbing," Townsend told the news report with a laugh. "I've done a lot of clubbing." He saw the opportunity as a chance to combine his passions and develop a club-specific heat pump project.
Heat pumps generally work by leveraging stable temperatures in underground rocks to balance out temperature fluctuations in buildings above the surface, Fast Company explained. Temperatures inside Earth's crust remain "relatively constant," so in the winter, colder air from a building gets pumped into the Earth to absorb heat from below. This then circulates back up to the building as warmer air. Once cooled, it continues back down to Earth in a cycle. In contrast, during summer, warmer air above ground pumps down to the cooler rocks below. The rocks absorb heat from the air, and cooler air returns back up to continue the cycle. The EPA shared a diagram of how this works.
SWG3 took this existing technology and added air collectors in its ceilings "to suck up the hot air put out by clubgoers on the floor," Fast Company reported. Other venues use these mechanisms to pipe hot air outside the building, but Townsend thought, "That wastes heat ... Why not capture it and use it? Otherwise, the heating is done by gas boilers."
BODYHEAT will send captured body heat up to 650 feet into the Earth, warming the surrounding rocks and cooling the club during parties. The rocks act like heat batteries, Fast Company explained, so during non-club times, when the building is used as an office or arts venue, that stored heat can be pumped back up from the rocks to warm the space.
These measures will allow for the club and music venue to operate more sustainably, and they're eliminating their traditional gas boilers completely, Townsend told Fast Company.
"This is the heating system for the venue," he said, noting that the body heat energy will be more than enough to warm the building during Glasgow's coldest months, which can average 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
The scheme is part of the UN-backed COP26 climate conference, which is slated to take place in Glasgow starting Oct. 31 of this year, Optimist Daily reported. As such, the Scottish city has been introducing a number of creative environmental initiatives and solutions to showcase what a more climate-friendly future might look like.
"The thing I love most about BODYHEAT is that it's all existing technology," Javaheri said. "Innovations aren't limited to inventing something new, and with so many conversations on a more sustainable future already happening in the city, I'm excited to see what else we'll be able to get off the ground by the end of it."

The goal of the international summit will be to bring parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the COP26 website notes. As the host, the United Kingdom also shares its climate leadership actions on the page.
Currently finishing up their "radical [green] retrofit" to fully install BODYHEAT and sustainably-update other features, SWG3 will reopen on Nov. 7 during the climate change conference, TimeOut reported.
"BODYHEAT is our innovative contribution to a global issue, and will help us to dramatically decrease our energy consumption — bringing us one step closer to becoming a carbon neutral venue in the not so distant future," SWG3 Managing Director Andrew Fleming Brown said in a company statement.
Based on previous annual attendance figures, SWG3 estimates that the project could save 70 tonnes of carbon emissions per year, the statement said. This week, the club also announced its pledge to go Net Zero and to become carbon neutral by 2025 or sooner. According to its city council, Glasgow has city-wide aims of reaching Net Zero by 2030.
SWG3 hopes to "lead by example" to show other venues across the world to decarbonize. In its Net Zero pledge announcement, the venue offers to share its insights with all others looking to make similar sustainability shifts.
"We want to keep dancing, keep working, keep creating, keep inspiring ― but we also want to do this in a responsible, innovative way," the pledge said. "We know this won't be easy, but we know we have to try — and we're mad up for the challenge."
