The consulting firm Mercer has put out its annual quality of life index that ranks cities around the world on various criteria. It's not surprising that many of the cities featured on the list have smart planning, high density and a culture that places a strong value on a pristine environment. Vancouver and Stockholm are two such cities on the list. Both have set ambitious renewable energy targets, pledging to be powered completely by renewable energy by 2050.

Documents unearthed in a lawsuit brought by a Missouri farmer who claimed that Monsanto and German chemical maker BASF's dicamba herbicide ruined his peach orchard revealed that the two companies knew their new agricultural seed and chemical system would likely damage many U.S. farms, according to documents seen by The Guardian.
